Dogbowl Skateboard Shop in Brooklin, Ontario wanted a fresh take on their skateboard deck design, something that would stand out from their previous seasons’ products. As it would be used by their team riders as well as customers, I developed a versatile concept and design.

Skateboarders in their environment use objects as obstacles. Whether they are using a triangular ramp, a square box, a rectangular curb, or the cylinder of a railing, skateboarders are constantly seeking the next shape to skate. The vessels they use to ride are derived of shapes as well, from the skateboard deck to the hardware, to the wheels. Taking this literally, I created a font constructed from varying shapes to develop the design.

The end result was an eye-catching typographic design that was also utilized as a business card. The shop owner and team riders were excited by the new design, and eager to see it used by new riders in local skateparks.
